THINKING BEYOND THE TENT: THE ART OF CUSTOM EVENT DESIGN
We have been in full wedding force as we wrap up October and head into November! With so many beautiful celebrations taking place, we wanted to take a moment to look back at a wedding we worked on last year at The Biltmore that has since been featured in Vogue in its feature, The Next Generation of Wedding Tents.
In collaboration with Samkoma Events, we helped bring a Greek Orthodox church to life right on the grounds of The Biltmore through an incredible custom build by our White Door Events team. The goal was to create a tent façade that felt like guests were approaching an actual church. Our custom build team designed an exterior complete with grand arched entryways, traditional architectural details, oversized wooden doors, and beautiful lighting. Rather than simply creating a flat façade, the design pushed into the face of the tent, creating dimensional alcoves that gave the structure the depth and presence of a real building.
And the details? They made all the difference. From the symmetry of the three grand entryways to the arched windows and architectural columns, every element was thoughtfully designed to capture the feeling of a Greek Orthodox church. This was no small undertaking! The project required seven months of planning and collaboration, 122 hours of design work, and five days of assembly. It was also a first for our team, pushing the boundaries of what a custom tent façade could look like by creating a three-dimensional architectural experience rather than a traditional tent exterior.
As the sun set and guests began to arrive, the glowing façade truly transformed the experience. What was once a tent became something entirely unexpected, making guests feel as though they were stepping into a church for the evening. As the planners shared with Vogue, the finished result was “nothing short of magic.”
Projects like this are exactly why we love what we do at White Door Events. Our custom build team thrives on taking ideas beyond the expected, creating immersive environments, and finding ways to transform an ordinary space into something unforgettable.
